The Essentials edition of Family Tree Maker came with everything that we needed to get started discovering our family’s roots. With some planning beforehand, the one-month trial of Ancestry.com was all that we needed to gather that source information. The Family Tree Maker software integrates nicely with the site and then provides lots of easy, step-by-step methods for maintaining, organizing and viewing your results. Several members of our household have tried it out and all indicated that they liked its interface and simplicity.

It seems that some people are disappointed in the new iMovie, which is substantially different than the old one. The new one is much easier for most non-computer people to use, making it possible for just about anyone to make a movie quickly and easily. So what’s wrong with that? That ease of use sacrifices many of the uber-advanced features that technical people love. Everything is packaged and ready-to-go to look good, but you can add advanced volume or video controls and filters.

These comments focus primarily on Word and Excel, which are the applications I use. I have a 2.2 Ghz Core Duo 2 MacBook Pro with 4 gigs of RAM, so this is a very fast computer by most measures. Keep this in mind while reading my comments.
Pros:n1. The toolbars are better integrated into the workspace.n2. The graphics look a lot better.n3. File sizes are smaller in the new native format.

Here are some answers to questions that I think people might have:nnWho can use Snow Leopard?nThis is only for the new Intel Macs. You can install Snow Leopard if you have iMac made on or after January 6, 2006, Mac Minis starting Feb. 28, 2006, any Mac Pro, any MacBook or any MacBook Pro. Also note that you need at least 1 GB of RAM. Some older Mac Minis may not have enough memory.

Imagine a flu shot that made you feel sick for several days. On the one hand, you wouldn’t get the flu, so you wouldn’t get some of the really nasty complications that sometimes come with the flu. On the other hand, you’d still get about as sick as you would with a normal flu.
It’s the same way with this virus program: It slows down your computer just like most of the trojan horses and spyware it prevents from being installed.

This is an old model, but I have two of them which were both purchased used. The first has been in service for several years now without a single complaint. I’ve found them to be much more stable than the consumer-grade products available at most retail outlets.
