WordPerfect Office 8 has proven itself relatively intutive and streamlined, from install to daily use. This version of WordPerfect is the first I have used, and the first word-processing software I have used heavily on a PC in some time. I also like being able to work in WordPerfect and export documents that are compatible with the latest version of Word (the docx filetype).
By way of background, I have used Word on PCs in the past, but my heaviest ongoing equivalent use is of Microsoft Office and other programs on various flavors of Macintosh. Thus, this software withstood a double test someone with only basic Windows experience who has used Microsoft Word for years because it is the tool of choice of those I work with, not because I like it.
Install took a fraction of the time required by Microsoft Office, and receiving the software on disk provides an easy way of reinstalling if something goes awry with your computer in the future. The process is self-explanatory, just keep in mind that you will need to install the program and the add-ons one by one.
Creating, editing and managing documents has been a joy. The tool bar and icons are clear and easy to use, and tasks like inserting graphics (and modifying their size, placement and effects) are much simpler than with Word. If you plan to export files that are compatible with MS Office, you will need to install the MS Office Compatibility Pack. Youll be prompted with a pop-up window the first time you go to the Save As menu and choose the flavor of Word in which you want to save a copy of your document.
