In its early years, this operating system was one of the most unsatisfactory I have ever used — including DOS, Win 3.1, Windows 95 and Windows 98.
Aside from being incompatible with older hardware, XP Home Edition crashed frequently — especially if you often work with several windows open at once as I do. This was particularly unhelpful. As a writer, I was forced to save documents no less than once for each new sentence, and at touchy moments, literally every few words.

Windows XP home is a operating system from Microsoft that finally defines stability and ease of use into one. If you are thinking about upgrading from Windows 98, go straight ahead, if you are still using Windows ME, please immediately upgrade. This operating is very easy to use with a redesigned start menu that provides easier access to programs and accessories. More stable because it is built upon the Windows NT kernel so it won’t crash but your applications will software apps weren’t built on NT, only the Operating System, so you can’t get everything perfect!

Windows Me is basically Windows 98 with a fancy new name to allude to the year it was released (2000)…it was just some PR stunt. As with Windows 98, Windows Me is crash prone…so expect to see one BSoD (Blue Screen of Death) after another. I tried Windows Me back when it was released…I went right back to Windows 98…and since then I have migrated to Linux.
Really, there is no reason to use Windows 98 or Windows Me on ANY computer.

Windows XP really is the best windows operating system to date. It is not perfect by any means, but it works the way it’s supposed to almost all the time. If you’re thinking about using this upgrade version, let me warn you of two things: (1) You need to check all of your software to see if it’s compatible with XP (there is a checking-program on this disc, but you can also download it from Microsoft’s website to see which software you have is not compatible).

Windows XP Pro is quite arguably the most reliable operating system that Microsoft has come out with yet. Additionally it comes with the option of converting it to a Windows 98SE desktop appearance, for those who don’t want to fuss with learning new instructions to get the old things done. It does so much more though.n One note of caution; do not install XP in an older machine, with older hardware.

Windows 8 is an absolute disaster. The desktop is now a confusing morass. There is simply nothing about this OS that is an upgrade over Windows 7, and in many ways it is far worse.

Windows is Windows. How much can you expect - maybe that it doesn’t fall over too often. Actually, once it too often. I bought it for too much money because I couldn’t escape Quicken for Windows (on my Mac) until I found another tool that runs better and can actually add. (Quicken has a problem with adding.) So long as the new financial tool works I’ll likely not be running much Windows/Quicken.

Windows 7 hits the mark as the best operating system on the market today. Switching from other systems to Windows 7 is easy and very non-time consuming, everything works and is available to use, all your programs and games from older versions of windows all work perfectly unlike OSX Lion which killed off PPC Rosetta apps becasue they thought it was time to stop supporting it rendering tons of apps, games, programs useless because Apple does not think you need them.

Windows 8 takes more clicks to get around than Windows 7. It would be great if you install it on a touch screen laptop. I don’t necessarily think it’s a tablet friendly OS.
I do think the changes that are in the new OS are necessary due to moving to move touch interface on all mobile devices however, until more are available I think people are going to find clicking more to get to a given application will be irritating.

Windows XP has been the best OS from Microsoft yet. It is not perfect, but it does not crash very often. I’m running XP on 3 computers that are networked. My laptops came with XP, but my desk top came with Windows 98, which was not very stable (it crashed daily). I tried using ME, but that was the worst operating system ever. Upgrading my older Compaq 667MH Celeron was very easy with XP.

Windows XP SP2 is a headache especially if you are upgrading. Windows XP started out as pretty good and then the Microsoft Committees ruined it. People who have upgraded have had trouples with devices not working, Anti-Virus software not working correctly and guess what–IT STILL HAS SECURITY FLAWS! The IT world has had nothing nice to say about this crappy SP.

Windows 8 is the worst mistake in Microsoft’s history. How sad. After four frustrating days of trying to find something in Windows 8 to make up for the total loss of direction in the Windows’ interface I went back to the Windows Store and got my money back. Maybe Windows 9 will be led by some new management with more vision.

Windows Live OneCare 2.0 introduces the managed services concept to home PC users. The software optimizes your PC with three closely related sets of programs:nn1. ‘Protection Plus’ includes virus and spyware monitoring, anti-phishing filters and firewall to help keep the bad stuff away from you.n2. ‘Performance Plus’ optimizes your hard drive and repairs it in case something unwanted manages to get through or whenever you want to fine-tune your system; the set of utilities includes disk defragmentation, unnecessary file cleanup, scandisk for spyware/malware/viruses etc.

Windows XP had problems. Vista a bit better, for me. 7 is great, happy with it. I won’t buy 8 unless there is absolutely NO alternative. 7 good for gamers.

Windows Vista with SP1 is a pretty darned good operating system. Its main problem is that Windows XP is also a superb operating system, and most users will have difficulty understanding why we needed more than an incremental upgrade from XP. To the extent that the Vista interface deviates from the XP menus, I mostly have found this to be simply irritating.
The main flaw with Vista is that it deliberately did not have backwards compatibility with many earlier-version Window drivers.

Windows XP Pro is a very good to use and stable operating system providing it’s installed onto a good quality machine. Less than a P4 2GHz and 512 MB of RAM isn’t going to really work out. Stick to Windows 2000 Pro, SP4 for anything less.nThe go back to a previous date feature is tremendously useful for when something goes wrong, but I could do without the snoop-doggy-dog in the file search section.

Windows Vista has to be one of the most reviled versions of Windows, right up there with Bob and Windows Me.
The first release of Vista probably deserved some of the criticism, but so did those who tried to install it on older machines that just weren’t up to the task. Microsoft probably set expectations a little too high, and as what happened with the first Star Wars prequel, the end product was never going to live up to the expectations.
