Microsoft seems to thing that Windows 8.1 is a platform for Microsoft ads. Keeps pushing windows 10 upgrade ads every day.

Microsoft MapPoint is good for two types of users: those who need a ‘super’ GPS, and those who need to create maps to go with their presentations and analysis.
With a GPS puck (not included), MS MapPoint becomes a great GPS for salesmen, delivery men, and others who need to map out their day in order to visit several points in an efficient manner. Most GPS devices fail in this regard (they work great from point A to B, and could include a detour, but forget about going to ten locations).

Microsoft Publisher 2002 contains new features for users such as the Microsoft Office Word-Art, which I think is a plus. It was so difficult in previous versions of Publisher to insert Text Art so that’s one major benefit from the program. It has the familiar Task Pane which makes integration across all the Office (XP) applications work seamlessly. You get ton’s Clip Art that are very unique so that Publications can look different and fancy.

Microsoft accepted the activation code. Easier to install than Windows 7. Updates itself in the wee small hours. It was possible to whittle it back to close to a Windows 7 interface. Plays nice with Bootcamp on an iMac.

Microsoft products are all paranoid. They assume you are trying to pirate their stuff. So they are hard to install, understand, use. This paranoia began with XP, but the paranoia matured in Vista, and is full-fledged, in Win7. It’s positively manic, in Win8. So frankly, if you value your own sanity, never go beyond Win7. And keep your XP. I bought four more copies of XP Pro OS from DigiConcepts here in Amazon, because frankly I don’t want to use Win7 much.

Microsoft Office has been the standard for word processing, spreadsheet, database, and other misc. apps for more than 20 years now. Lotus, dBase, and Word Perfect simply couldn’t keep up on features, stability or price over the years. These days it’s easier than ever to install. You simply download, enter your key, and go. While the licensing restrictions are tighter than a couple of versions back (and before), the price is also lower.

Microsoft Office is the leader in pro office suites. However, the licensing for 2013 was horrible, and for the most part, you can do all the important things with Google apps for absolutely free.

Microsoft Word 2010 builds on an idea that Microsoft is famous for, which is to refine the dashboard of the car, not the engine or performance of the car, building on an already successful overload of bloated and reckless programming. I can’t 100% vouch for this, because I don’t work for Microsoft, but this program is yet another example of where Microsoft completely depends on the fact that many businesses and end users are ONLY familiar with Word, and little else.

Microsoft Office Accounting Pro 2008 would be a great tool for small business. It’s easy to use and hasn’t caused any burbs on my system like most products I install. I’m just now starting my business so I don’t get a lot of use out of it but it would be great for businesses that have actual employees :)

Microsoft selling OneCare anti-virus? It has decided to make money off selling a fix to a problem in its original product (Windows). That’s just offensive.

Microsoft Office Professional 2013 is nicely redesigned, fully integrated with cloud, and very touch-screen friendly, but at a substantial cost especially for individual users. Users of Office 2010 can also access cloud through free third-party services. So, the major improvement is not cloud access, but the newly incorporated finger gesture recognition now available to every touch-screen equipped device, like tablets, and allowing to scroll, zoom, pan, ribbon-hiding, enlarging and spacing apart icons, etc.

Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2008 is Microsoft’s answer to Quickbooks and Peachtree, two companies that have led in the accounting software sector for a number of years. Having used Quickbooks in the past (and still do), I looked forward to the opportunity to test Microsoft’s software.
As my intent was to only test this software, I installed the software onto a spare computer so that I did not have to worry that this software would somehow screw up my Quickbooks files.

Microsoft seems to have stripped most of the functionality out from previous versions of word and the help function is pointless.
This program is far inferior to any previous version. Not an upgrade at all.

Microsoft Streets & Trips with GPS Locator (2010)nnSo, you have a laptop computer and you need a GPS for your car. Hey! For way less than $100 I can get this piece of software and get going somewhere. I’ll have all sorts of travel info and map guidance and it’ll be great. Not so fast Sparky….
First you need a peppy laptop. Otherwise you’ll be waiting a long time as it grinds out your information.

Microsoft did not learn much from its earlier abortive Vista release. Windows 8 is a completely new approach to using Windows and it hampers function for desktop users to assist tablet users. Windows 7 and XP users will be frustrated and often lost.
Microsoft was negligent and typically arrogant in not providing an alternative choice to select a more intuitive Windows 7 like interface option under Windows 8 for desktop users.

Microsoft itself offers a 30 day money back guaranty on this product. Keep all the packaging because you may want to return this product.
I’m a long-time user of Streets & Trips.
This release is very disappointing.
I use the Points Of Interest function often when I travel to find restaurants near my hotel and such. Earlier editions have been very good in this regard: this edition - in one word - stinks.

Microsoft suffers from a common tech industry delusion: they think a PC is pretty much a good interface for anything. This explains the otherwise inexplicable fact that Microsoft is actually marketing this software for in-car navigation. I don’t know about you, but I have neither the space nor the intention to be running a laptop in my car while I drive.
Having said that, the software still has a place on the desktop, the advent of Google Earth notwithstanding.

Microsoft Windows 8.1 is very different from the previous versions of MS Windows. MS Windows 8 and 8.1 tries to be two things in one package, an operating system for both desktop computers and tablet computers. There is a bit of a learning curve for finding all of the functions of the computer. This version also requires that you log in with Microsoft Account. It is used for saving all of your settings and passwords as well as buy and downloading Apps in the Windows Store.

Microsoft Office 2007 is a great product. Although the command look different I would highly recommend this product. I especially like Outlook. Outlook has something called Business Contact Manager. This program is a great additional to Outlook. I have not used Outlook fully, but I do like the changes in the product.

Microsoft MapPoint 2010nnWhile this may not be technically correct, MapPoint appears from a user standpoint to be an enhanced version of Microsoft’s Streets and Trips. Both can be used for plotting trips, and with a GPS adapter, turn your laptop into a full blown GPS. Using a computer to plan trips has a lot of advantages over a standalone GPS. You can plan your trips and side trips on a large screen, easily save and edit them, and look up possible destinations on the internet at the same time.

Microsoft MapPoint 2009 seems like overkill when it comes to personal use. I know you can get directions using it, but you can just as easily do that with MapQuest, Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, etc. I know you can use it as a GPS program with the proper GPS hardware, but that’s a fairly expensive solution when there are much more user-friendly, less expensive (and often more up-to-date) solutions readily available at any store that sells electronics.

Microsoft Office is still the standard all the rest are compared to. Office 365 is a great value when you consider the licensing options for standalone packages. You might be tempted to use a free online office solution, but you’ll be disappointed. The cost and licensing options for this software are a bargain compared to the cost of owning the package on the same machines, and keeping them upgraded.

Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac provides a fully-featured solution with few if any bugs that I’ve encountered. It does a lot of updating, but it updates with no problems and I haven’t had any loss of data issues throughout my year and a half of using it. Everything has functioned properly… Why can’t all of Microsoft’s software work this flawlessly? Aside from the rhetorical questions, I see no reason not to recommend this product.

Microsoft Office is pretty much the standard software used by most businesses and individuals. This version contains Word for word processing, Excel for spreadsheets, PowerPoint for presentations, OneNote to help keep you and projects organized, and Outlook to manage your email. This is the version that can be installed on up to five devices and is only valid for a one year subscription. I’m not a fan of this type of subscription, but the cost is lower than buying the one pc version, and this can be used on windows tablets and phones, as well.

Microsoft Office is a vital program to have on any computer. For work, for school, it’s absolutely essential. Even on a completely personal computer, chances are someone will send you a Word file at some point. You want the real deal, actual Office, not some knock-off. The functionality is just that much better with Microsoft Word. That being said, I don’t see the purpose of Office 365. I do not like the concept of a subscription service for essential software.
