The software has all the major necessities for a small sized company to do their bookkeeping properly. These include the customers and sales section which allows you to add either customers or jobs as sources of revenue depending on how your company operates. Quotes and proposals, sales orders, invoices, and time and expense tickets can all be created to track a companys sales data. There is also a free Mobil app available to sage users which allows all of the companys sales data and customers to be accessed at any time. The app is not interactive but the data can be viewed. The Sage program also offers merchant services that allows credit card payments to be entered and processed directly in Sage. All the vendors and purchases of a company are tracked. Those, like the accounts receivable features, include tracking everything necessary for product or services companies. All of the inventories for the company can be tracked and purchase orders created. All employee information can be managed through Sage. The payroll services, however, do cost extra per year but that is the case for most accounting software like Sage. Lastly, all a companys banks and credit cards can be managed inside Sage.
Sage has more features, and overall I was very impressed with the software. The layout is very easy to comprehend. There are different tabs for each of the functions as I described before. Each of the tabs is laid out on the screen with all the individual steps necessary for proper bookkeeping. I think it helps to keep you organized and make sure nothing is missed. Also, once all of the individual steps are completed inside of the program you can pull basically any report you need with any of the information from all the departments. Once you purchase the program there is also technical support available if you have any program needs, but after the first year it is not free.
Currently I use QuickBooks as an accounting program, and I would say they are both very similar. I do, though, think that Sage has a better layout to keep track of companies with more information. It would probably be a good step up from the QuickBooks software for companies with more information. The only con to the Sage program is that, just like QuickBooks, there is no audit trail.
