I installed this upgrade flawlessly on my desktop, but my HP DV-7 7133nr I7 8 core was a problem. If your laptop is running Intel Drivers in windows 7 or Vista, they are not compatible with 8. When you pay the $39.00 upgrade fee, you get your key emailed to you. The email gives you the download site, and when you start the download, you get 3 options. 1. download, 2. create media, meaning burn the windows 8 ISO file to a DVD, and 3. save for later. I chose use the internet on the first try and the problems started. During the install, 8 came up and said the Intel Driver must be uninstalled. I chose OK. When that happened, a window came up and said the computer must be restarted. When my HP restarted, it booted to a blue screen, and went into system recovery in windows 7 and restored windows 7. Then I could not get back into the Windows 8 download site until I found and deleted the panther file from the attempted install. That took an hour or so. Once I did that, I got back into the download site. I then chose option 2,and burned the media to a DVD. Then I shut down and restarted and entered my C MOS and made sure I set the boot sector to boot from the DVD Rom first and the hard drive second and usb third. If you don’t do this, you will never get 8 installed. Once 8 uninstalled the Intel drivers, it booted back to the DVD, the install worked fine. So my advice, run the windows upgrade adviser, and if it says your Intel drivers are not compatible, you MUST create a bootable media (Option 2) or your computer will not upgrade, and trust me, I googled for hours trying to find the panther file which was in the app data file which was hidden. So Take my advice, and save a lot of headaches. As for Windows 8 pro, I just love it. I is smooth, easy to figure out, fast and the new interface works flawlessly. Also if you do not know this, Media Center is not included, and Microsoft charges another $10 for this package.
