I’ve been using Quicken since 1995 and have been upgrading every 3 years in order to maintain the ability to download credit card transactions. The last installed version was 2011 so it was time to upgrade again this year. The upgrade went smoothly with no major issues and for the first time that I can remember, Intuit pretty much left the graphical user interface in the program alone. I did have to close the program, de-activate and re-activate the credit card accounts to get them all to work , but that was no big deal.

I decided to try this software because I could get it for free (due to promotions) and Norton wanted much more for the subscription.nInstallation on Windows 2000 immediately presented a problem: the entire system hung after the installation. McAfee’s support is useless, just their user’s forum on their web site. Many users reported the same installation problem, but nobody has received any help from the company (I stopped watching the forum after a few weeks).

This seems like a no frills anti-virus solftware. The installation on Windows XP was simple. Not much hassle with any settings. The only dicosmfort is the updates: Kaspersky’s site is unbelievably slow, or it appears this way; hence, the it takes forever to complete the updates. Hence 4 stars.

Installation on WinXp was simple and fast, the updates downloaded fast, scans and some other features are great! I am keeping this on my desktop even though I will have to make a decision in 1 year what to do with it: I can get a free McAffe from my Internet provider, but this one looks and feels way better than the default VirusScan.

I buy this program every year to do my taxes since 2005 and I’m still buying it, which should tell you something. I did use Turbo Tax, once, but didn’t care for it. This program, once called Tax Cut seems to be more user friendly, though not perfect. It is nice to see that DeductionPro is once again part of the software rather than having to go online to retrieve it.

I have been using H&R Block tax software to do my taxes for several years now after using TurboTax once and didn’t like it. H&R block, no matter what its name is currently, is a great program to do income taxes. It is easy to read and follow. It isn’t a perfect program, but what is, but it does the job it is advertised to do.nUntil they change the program and make it go downhill, I will continue to use it.

Sorry, but I don’t like this one. I prefer Office 2010 much more. I’d like to really know why instead of making things more simple for the consumer, manufacturers make their products more difficult to use. This is another one of those products. This one has extra steps, extra doors to go through to do things normally done while on the main page. In this one you have to actually go into review step to spell check.

I’m still using it while I’m in the process of doing taxes, so this review may change. So far, though, it isn’t as good as the previous year’s editions and don’t understand why. First, every time I open the return, a new empyty, blank return comes up and I have to open the saved return. Second, after running this program through the first time through to the end, the audit risk listed all things that DID NOT apply to me.

I’ve used the H&R TaxCut programs for a number of years to prepare my federal and state tax returns. The latest 2007 program worked with no problems. A big, good feature of the program is that it will load basic return data from the last year’s return if it had been prepared using the H&R TaxCut program. I highly recommend the program.
