Love the latest version of this classic tool. Has all the bells and whistles for a quick, painless tuneup of my PC plus the excellent WinZip functions. Highly recommended.

How frustrating it is to get this stupid piece of software installed on my Windows 8 computer. It freezes on the install screen. I have been working for hours, contacted both technical and customer support by email with no response. Of course there is no telephone support either. Clearly other Windows 8 users have had problems since they have various patches and FAQs. None of these methods work with my system however.

The tagline above summarizes the most important thing a potential purchaser needs to know. AutoCAD Freestyle is very thorough, in that it gives users a great amount of freedom and flexibility in ‘basic’ elements of 2D plan design, and also in that it comes with a nice array of options (such as being able to add appliances, furniture, etc., to plans). For the most part, people considering this program already know what they’re looking for.

TurboTax Deluxe is easy to install and the interface is intuitive and easy to use. I can’t comment on the start-to-finish tax-return experience yet, as I won’t have everything needed to complete my return for a few more months. I will update this review with my full experience at that time. FIRST UPDATE- 27 MARCH 2016: My return has been filed and I’m just giving it a bit of time to make sure no problems come back, but I have to say that I’m shocked by how easy this was.

More and more, it seems that reviewing new software means addressing two issues: the software proper, and the publisher’s distribution model. The most notable example is Adobe’s Creative Cloud, which amounts to a subscription-only service that doesn’t give users an option to buy the program outright. Microsoft’s new distribution model isn’t quite so problematic, but it still raises some concerns. However, the most important part of any software is how it performs, and Office 2013 is a champ in that regard.

I’ve long promoted AVG’s free products to friends who asked my opinions. I’ve tried them myself, and they provide an acceptable level of service- great news, considering the price. However, after a terrible experience with a well-known security product several years ago (see my other reviews for details), I swore off all security programs, deciding instead to be vigilant with my machines and my internet activities as a better way to protect my machines.
