I had very high hopes for this software, as I wanted to take advantage of it for real estate purposes. Since I am also new to the product, I was also curious about the interface, in that I didn’t have any expectations based on previous versions, unlike others that have posted here.
Suffice it to say that any hopes I had were destroyed almost instantly. This is one of the worst user interfaces I’ve seen in quite a while, certainly in a major product from a major publisher (and I’m a software development exec).

I wrote in my review of Norton Internet Security 2008 that I used the product - but despised it. The hit to my system’s resources was just too great, and I turned much of it off as a result.
The 2009 version is MUCH faster - to the point where I am leaving all options enabled. The hit to the system appears to be minimal. The user interface is simpler and less confusing also.

Norton just may be the best of the AV suites available, but that doesn’t make it much more palatable. The software is a pain to install and worse to renew, has a major (negative) impact on performance, and is paternalistic to the max. Turn off anything - anything - in the suite, and you’ll never see the end of warning messages in your system tray warning you of Armegeddon, even with notifications turned off.
