I’ve used Family Tree Maker for many years now, as well as ancestry.com. If you find that ancestry.com is a bit cumbersome at times, you should give the software a try. Family Tree Maker isn’t a fully polished software application, but it does get the job done and when it comes genealogy it’s one of the few choices to complete the job. Deciding between the various versions of Family Tree Maker should be fairly simple as there are few noticeable differences.

It starts by interview and then step by step instruction with help topics along the way. it has a calculator included and IRS forms of many kind more than what I needed. The state filing was also easy though E filing cost little extra with no clear advantage for Illinois as it is simple for me.nIt doe import data from lost year and files in the stuff where it is needed even at the end where you use it as a pin to file the E File.

I have to hand it to Microsoft, they know how to market their software. That’s the only reason I can think of as to why anyone would be dumb enough to upgrade from Vista to Win 7…or from XP for that matter. It’s the same operating system! I have both Vista and Win 7. Win7 is on a newer system and Vista is on an older system. Both run at the same speed…slow.

Been using H&R Block tax software (Tax Cut) for more years than I can remember.nUsed Turbo Tax before that for several years. Finally tried Tax Cut, now H&R Block because my Dad was using it and the lower cost than Turbo Tax.nIt has handled everything for me over the years from K 1 forms to investment forms including cap gains/losses etc.nIt has even handled for me with out a hitch a necessitated amended return.

Norton is overpriced. Macafee slows my computer to a crawl. This software integrates suprisingly well with Windows. I’ve always been wary of MS products, but I was stunned by the ease of use. Most firewalls I’ve had are incredibly annoying with their security pop-ups. (mcaffee especially) This program just sits in the background unnoticed. Sometimes I wonder if it’s on, but it’s running. That’s what they should be doing, right? It’s $30 cheaper than the competition too.

For anyone thinking of getting Kaspersky Internet security, I would recommend getting Norton 360 instead. I’ve used this software for a year now and it’s given me nothing but problems. Like any program, it sits on the system tray and monitors computer activity. The biggest problem is during start-up. It doesn’t start-up. Even though your network is active, it won’t let you use the internet until the tray icon starts. That often forces me to reboot and waste another 7 minutes.
