I’ve recently switched from McAfee, after far too many unhappy experiences and have think I found my new PC security software company: Kaspersky. Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is a very capable program, but pales in comparison to their fully featured version called Kaspersky Pure. If you can afford the upgrade, and use your computer for more than emails and facebook, then I recommend passing on this Internet Security and getting the Pure edition.

I’ve been using this for the last 2 weeks and am really enjoying it. It really gives you an amazing value and loads of the newest features and abilities. If you don’t want to spend over $350 for Sony Vegas Pro or over $700 for Adobe Premier Pro, then this Corel VideoStudio Pro is one of your best choices. It has more features that any other sub-$100 video software program out there.

My Windows 8 PC didn’t come shipped with a Blu-ray playing software so I needed something. All the reviews sites placed this one at the top. The installation was very easy - like any software should be and I was able to play a Blu-ray disc in less than 3 minutes. So far I’ve watch well over 20 Blu-ray discs and have not had a single problem. The menu system is very easy to use and there are different settings that change the screen colors and audio profiles so that I can select the best one for my monitor and movie genre.

Simply put, this is a license to install 10 computers, tablets or smartphones with Norton Internet Security and a few other software bits, like stolen device locator, misplaced device location alarm, app scanning and file scanning. Don’t be misled, you don’t get the full Norton suite of products (like Norton 360 gives you) but you do get a little more than NIS alone. For the price, this is an excellent value.

In the past I’ve used Quicken Legal Business Pro 2012. It helped me to set up my small business (myself and my partner). We used the forms in the software to write our contracts and the advice to understand property leases, independent contractors, meeting minutes, and other parts of running a small business.
This year I’ve expanded to pick up a secretary/office assistant. So I picked up this new 2014 version to get up to date contracts and IRS tax knowledge.

This new version of a classic program does what it is supposed to do. It installed easily on my Windows 7 laptop. It zipped and unzipped sample files with ease. If you use cloud services (SkyDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive,CoudMe, and SugarSync), this will save you upload and download time, as well as storage fees. Links in the program make sharing easier too. Zipping large files can save space on your own hard drives and the program makes that easy.

This is a fantastic product! I put off using it for a while after it came. It’s kind of a grim thing to think about, but we are all mortal, and it’s very important to make sure this kind of business is taken care of. I thought it would be complicated and that I would need a lot of information to get started. Not so!nWhen I opened the box, I found not only the CD with the software (Windows XP/Vista/7/8,), but also the handy, easy-to-understand handbook from NoLo, The Legal Answer Book for Families with basic advice from lawyers relating to marriage, divorce, child custody, child support, adoption, children, and elder care.

This program helps you author DVDs, convert videos to different formats, and capture still images and snippets from VHS tapes or DVDs. It worked fine for a while, but then bugs started turning up. Unfortunately, the free support only lasts a couple of weeks. Then, you are thrown on the tender mercies of the user forum. A review here on Amazon suggested that installing a previous version (we have two older versions of this program) might work.

I have used McAfee virus protection for many years and it has always worked well for me. One problem has always been the multiple accounts that spring up when we purchase new laptops or desktops. Customer service straightens them out when you ask, but it’s a bother. This single yearly subscription is a great solution. The box contains a wallet-sized card with a serial number on it and a larger card with directions in English on one side and French on the other directing you to an activation site.

This app is terrific. Even if you don’t have a Kindle device (why not–they’re terrific) you can enjoy your Kindle content on your computer or other electronic gadget.
