I have been using the free version of Avast but got tired of the scammy upselling. I’ve used Trend Micro in the past and been happy. This time, unfortunately, things got off to a bad start. I don’t mind that the box does not contain a CD/DVD. Instead, you receive a card with instructions and key. I do mind that the main argument is to save the environment, which, if true, they should go with a smaller box or even no box–just an email with the essential info.

This is a fairly inexpensive way to get the use of Photoshop and Lightroom, but you need to understand that you will not own the program. This is essentially a one-year subscription to these programs, and you will need to resubscribe if you want to continue using the programs after the year ends. There are pros and cons to using the software this way versus purchasing the incredibly expensive software. People have different opinions on this, but if you’re like me you can’t afford the full versions of the software, and with the subscription system you won’t cringe when the newer versions come out.

Intuit is now vying to become one of the most hated companies in the US. They have a great product (not this one), but their greed and contempt for customers gets worse every year. I have purchased their products for years and almost always end up paying far more than I want in order to finish my return. I admit that their interface is superior to their competitors, but the programs often prompt you to purchase a more expensive version in order to finish your return.

I am very fast on the computer, both in terms of maneuvering in and out of programs and typing. This is not a product I need, but I did give it to my partner who struggles with typing. Set up took a long time. I began to lose my patience, especially when I finally started using the product and discovered it was nowhere near 99% accurate. Also, the headset arrived damaged.

Every year we think this will make it easier to do our LLC taxes, and every year turns into a nightmare. Since we use Quickbooks, we assume this edition will play nice with it and easily transfer over our data. Unfortunately, there are always glitches. The explanations are sparse or nonsensical. We almost always end up looking things up on the Internet or consulting a CPA. I wish there was a good competitor out there.

While TurboTax does indeed have the best interface, it can be glitchy and frustrating. It has never been good about importing, and this year was no different. I use two big investment firms, and TurboTax could not successfully import either one. Since that’s one of the reasons I purchase this particular software, I cannot recommend this product. If you have a simple return, this software will work well–but you’ll pay a lot.
