I’ve used Turbotax since it first came out and find it an excellent buy. Most people using an accountant would save a bunch of money using it. It has an easy step process that walks you through the entire process and your state tax is automatically prepared as you prepare your federal tax. A friend tried it recreating his tax that had been prepared by his accountant and found Turbotax lowered his tax.

I’ve used Turbotax since it first came out. Amazon’s price is competitive and shipment fast. No one should be afraid to do their own taxes. There is an easy learn step by step process that takes you through the process. It automatically creates your state tax for you as you compete your federal tax. I don’t know why more people don’t use it and save the money they have been paying to a tax preparation company.

I’ve used Quicken for 15 years and bought iBank4 now that Lion won’t run Quicken (so I am told). It downloaded my files correctly. I love the interface. It is fast and the reports are excellent. Much nicer that Quicken. I’m running both Quicken for Mac 2007 and iBank4 in parallel until Lion comes out next month. Even if Quicken does run under Lion I’ll probably dump it.

Here is an update on what I have learned.nAs I understand 2014 Deluxe Turbotax they did not remove Schedule D and still provide all the same forms as last year and data can be entered using the interview process or forms method and your return can be E-filed. HOWEVER if you sold stocks, bonds, options, or other investment assets and if you are using Deluxe YOU CANNOT E-FILE. In order to E-file starting this year you must enter stock, bonds, options, or other investment assets sale data using the Premier version.

My earlier review is below. Since that time Turbotax repented and brought Deluxe back to the way it was last year. In the meantime I bought H&R Block Deluxe. It was OK but as soon as Turbotax straightened out Deluxe I bought it and used it. I hope they learned a lesson and don’t try to nickel and dime long time customers again. Save your money and buy another program. They dropped Schedule D from the Deluxe version which many unsuspecting buyers will not discover until they have made a mistake and bought it assuming it is just an update of the 2013 program.

After 15 years with Turbotax Deluxe I bought H&R Block Deluxe for $40 rather than paying about $90 for Turbotax Premier since I have stock sales every year and could no longer use Turbotax Deluxe and file electronically. The Mac disc loaded fast and it transferred my 2013 Turbotax return data without an error. It took a while to get used to the H&R Block data entry format but once I understood it my data entry went well.

Ok, I admite I am finding it hard to say much about an antivirus program. :) It was easy to enstall and my computer has not crashed so I guess it’s doing it’s job. I do love the feature that warns you if a website is prone to spamming visitors. That’s a nice touch.nNow one big thing I don’t like about it is how much it slows down your computer. My computer was built (and believe me it cost a bit!

I honestly wish I could tell you how this program works. But that would be impossible because I couldn’t get it to load on my computer. My PC is pretty new. I purchased it last year. So I figured there would be no problem installing this. Boy was I wrong.nFirst and foremost what is the deal with no hard copy physical instructions in the box? Its just a disk. Moving past this though we get to the real problem.

This is the best at what it does. That’s putting it simply and directly. But it’s very true all the same. This version has everything you need.nIt has a word processor which is easy to use and straightforward to figure out.nIt contains a spreadsheet designer which is once again, simple to use and makes your projects look fantastic.nThe slideshow creator is one of my favorites. Just be careful you don’t go overboard with it.

Wordperfect Office X4 (14) Standard is a nice piece of software. I personally don’t use this kind of product much in my job but I honestly feel that it would be worth checking out for anyone who uses a lot of spreadsheets. These are really easy to create using the program.nThe basic features of this version are a word processor, slide show creation, email, and of course the spreadsheets.nThe word processor especially is pretty easy to use.
