Corel VideoStudio by Thorvald
I have been a big supporter of Corel products – VideoStudio and PaintShop Pro – since their earliest versions. They generally do what the more expensive software does but more easily and with more user-friendly filters and frills. Despite their aiming recent versions more at the auto-generate projects for amateurs to create fancy projects quickly, the Corel software still offers the features and function the pros want to product videos and graphics.

I am really surprised. I’ve tried a couple of times to install this on my Dell laptop without any success. I’m surprised because I’ve used previous versions of this product. The last was x7. X7 crashed a lot so I went back to x6 and it worked fine. I’m an Adobe user, but anyone who knows anything about Adobe knows it’s not the easiest software to use, so I use VS to quickly put together videos.

I have Wordperfect Office for students and I must say I really like it. There is a bit of a learning curve if you are coming from Microsoft Office but the included help manual guides you through the steps.

WordPerfect has always been something of a 2nd cousin you know exists, but no one knows much about them. Corel has it’s work cut out for it acting as a middle child between Microsoft Office and the free document suites available, like WordPerfect. I am not sure I would make the jump from X6 to X7 if you already have X6.
After spending a month with the new X7 which is reasonably priced compared to Microsoft’s recent money grab by renting it’s software by the year, still doesn’t stack up when there is a good free option available.

Corel WordPerfect Office X7 Home and Student software is a great option for your spreadsheet, document and word processing needs at under $100. WordPerfect Office X7 is also compatible with MS office and Windows 7 and 8. The software’s PDF export functionality allows users to turn their documents, spreadsheets and presentations into PDF files, making it simple to share documents with almost anyone. There’s even a Mail Merge Wizard to assist in creating letters and labels, as as well as a WordPerfect app for iPad!

I have been using WordPerfect since 1983. Although I use Microsoft Word at times, WordPerfect is still my word processor of choice. My primary reason for preferring WP over Word is that it is much easier to format documents and to fix stuff when it goes wrong.
I absolutely LOVE reveal codes. Nothing Word can do can make up for not having reveal codes. You can instantly see your settings and easily adjust any formatting.

This is a straightforward approach to word processing. Easy access to coding to see what’s happening on your page. The learning curve is easy and intuitive without a lot of time on the computer trying to figure things out. Very easy to convert Word to WordPerfect and it comes with tons of clip art and over 900 fonts.
It’s a really nice package and having reveal codes on makes a world of difference when it comes to getting your thoughts on the page.

It is hard for me to review this, since I thought I was getting the Standard version of Office, and expecting fun things like the Ebook Editor which I knew I would use a lot. Instead I received the Home and Student Edition. That instead is a bare bones version of Office.
