I have been using McAfee total protection for months now and while at first I thought their performance issues were fixed, eventually the PC scans start slowing the PC and affecting performance in general. When I was given the choice to try Norton 360, which I had already used before but did not renew when it expired, I didn’t think it twice.
First of all, installation was fast and without any issues, unlike McAfee which asks you to download and install a bunch of stuff you would assume is already in the disc. Norton’s interface is very easy to use, and is being continually improved. It is a simple task to find what you need and start whatever action you want to, without having to rely on help menus and the like.
The tools included are the following: Antivirus, Antispyware, Identity Protection, Password Vault (for both Internet Explorer and Firefox), PC Tune-up (Which does a great job in boosting performance) and Backup (very basic but it’s there should you need it)nnIf I had to mention the one thing I like the most from Norton 360 that would be performance. It does not feel like you have it installed! Scans in the background do not feel at all, I know Norton is scanning items only because a pop up lets me know when done. And that is another thing, pop-ups appear only when needed (some can be disabled if you want) and they are not as annoying as other products out there.
Surfing the web is great with Norton 360, the password vault is a great thing to use if you do shopping and use personal information and credit cards (Firefox offers a similar feature but without the protection Norton offers) Additionally, if you do a Google search for example, Norton 360 will scan the websites listed and let you know which are safe and which are not before actually clicking on the link. If this is not enough, Norton offers a functionality in which you can type the web address you intend to visit and will run a complete scan and even give you reviews of the website from other users before actually accessing it! I ran a couple tests and I can confirm results are reliable (P2P websites and the like are recognized as potential threats by Norton)nnOverall, a great tool and certainly the best from the ones I have tried, and for the price, you get protection for up to three PCs. Definitely recommend it over McAfee.
