I started a small business last year and I kept completely awful records. AWFUL. So when it came to doing taxes it was a complete nightmare. I’m a one man(woman) show and expected this year to be better than last year, so I thought that I should start fresh this year and actually keep accounting so I got the Sage 50.
My first impression, is that this is WAY more robust than what I actually need and find that it takes more time for me to try and get the hang of using this software to be beneficial for me. It’s not that I have trouble learning how to use new software, but for the business that I have I have very few out of pocket expenses, so I’ve found myself using an Excel spreadsheet because it’s extremely quick and accessible and is saved in the cloud (so that if my computer crashes I still have all of my data). Whereas launching the software and trying to input the information correctly takes more time than frankly I am willing to give to the process right now.
In the end, this program is just way more than I need, and unfortunately will take more time to setup correctly and learn how to use than I am willing to give to it. If you have multiple employees (which I don’t), and need to setup customer accounts, track accounts receivable and payable then the Sage Pro is probably exactly what you need, it just wasn’t for me. Technically speaking I didn’t have any problems with it, but then again I barely scratched the surface of it’s usability.
