Quick Books is justly popular. Not only will it help you keep the books, but it also captures quite a lot of data. You’ll have the info you need for billing, for determining the level of profitability of your jobs, and for managing contractors as well as employees.

It’s easy to install and easy enough to figure out, but you’ll be more successful (if you don’t have a background in accounting) if you pick up an instruction book. The documentation that comes with the program isn’t nearly enough.
