The good news is that out of the box, this is the first stable version of PaintShop Pro since X4. The bad news is that the update pack broke it!nnI’ve been a PSP user since version 3 when it was shareware under JASC Software. I’ve purchased almost every update since then. Version 9 and X4 are my favorites. There are so many fine details that this program handles easily and repeatably including color balance, brightness/contract and saturation. Cloning works well as does sharpening. And it does all this at a fraction of the cost of Adobe’s product.
However, stability has been a problem for PSP recently under Corel. They really needs a better QC team as these last few iterations have been really unstable. I couldn’t even get x7 to open a single image! I’d almost given up on the program, but saw the other promising reviews of X8. It was fine and stable until I installed the first service pack. That was a mistake as it crashed every time I tried to open it, both 64 and 32 bit versions. I was able to reinstall the original program and it seems to be back in working order, but now it’s nagging me to upgrade again.
