Quite a few years ago, I had a home business & hired a tax accountant. I was surprised when she used TurboTax to do my taxes. After a few years of paying her, I learned what deductions I could take & decided to do my own taxes. At that time I purchased TurboTax Home and Business. Through the years, TurboTax has performed for me as it should. There was a time when I wasn’t alerted to a State tax deduction/credit. Thankfully, I knew about the deduction/credit, which was sizable, and worked around the program so I could get the credit I deserved. So although TurboTax does a lot for you, you still should be aware of deductions & credits & forms that you need to use. I also found some terminology used in the program to be confusing & read the government’s bulletins to clarify the information.
I think TurboTax has gotten more confusing through the years, maybe it’s just me because I find doing taxes to be more complicated than it should be.
When I retired from my business, I began purchasing TurboTax Premier & it definitely helps me with our investments. A few years ago, I needed to use the Cost Basis function, and was thankful TurboTax walked me through it. I don’t have all the documents I need to begin filing my 2014 taxes, but am glad that TurboTax imports last year’s information for me.nI also use the program to do my daughter’s taxes.
