This is an excellent Internet security suite.
First off, this software is quick. The updates are quick and the scans are quick and can occur in the background. I am using an AMD Turion 64-bit X2 1.6 GHz processor with 2GB of Total RAM (memory) with the Microsoft Vista 32-bit Operating System. Installation only took a little under than 10 minutes.
The main console (graphical interface) is neatly and cleanly organized, color-coded, easy on the eyes, and mainly, easy to understand. The suite offers protection against viruses and spyware, prevents unauthorized changes, personal firewall, protection against web threats (such as phishing, pharming, and other threats), spam email filter, parental controls, and Data Theft Protection. Data Theft Protection lets you specify keywords that Trend Micro will notify you of if they are being transmitted from your computer. It will stop the transmission of that data unless you manually allow it. It is fully customizable and you can create any new field and specify the data to protect. Very useful if you are working withs secure data or on a secure PC.
The pleasant Trend Micro toolbar shows which webpages are safe and which ones are harmful. It also checks the safety of wireless networks that are detected by your computer. It also lets you know of security risks in the links of IM messages and webmail. If you visit a website that the Trend Micro database has logged as unsafe, it will bring up a Trend Micro intermediary warning page that lets you choose if you want to continue to the page.
There’s also an option to use Trend Micro Mobile Security on your mobile phone or PDA, but I wasn’t able to test out that feature. In order to use it though, you need Internet Exporer 6 or 7, or Firefox Version 2 or 3.
Another useful feature I enjoyed was to protect the specific settings that you set, you can set a password to prevent others from making changes to the Trend Micro settings without your permission. Very useful if there are multiple users or kids that also use your computer.
This suite also has a Home Network feature which lets you see all the other computers on your network in a icon map diagram, and prevent intruders from entering the network. It’s a very useful tool for everyone. Beginners may appreciate it more since advanced users are more likely to fully secure their wireless network in ways that a beginner may not know of.
This PRO version (Trend Micro Internet Security Pro) has a few additional tools that are excellent.na) The Trend Micro vault is great for storing and locking secure files. You drag your important files into the vault, and specify a password. If your computer is ever lost, go online and report your computer as lost at the Trend Micro website, and the vault will permanently lock access to everything inside the vault even if someone has the right password. The only thing is that the lost computer needs to connect to the Internet (wired or wirelessly) once after you report the lost computer in order to get that update that it was reported lost.nb) The System Tuner will find disk space, check your startup programs and registry. You can disable programs from loading on startup. I use it once a month for disk space.
I loaded a virus on my computer, and this software was able to quickly contain the virus, prevent it from causing harm, and placed it in quarantine. I prefer these Internet security suites over regular anti-virus programs because these suites are capable of so much more.
I have used used Kaspersky Internet Security Suite and Norton 360, and those are also excellent programs, but I prefer Trend Micro a bit more.
This suite offers incredible protection and I highly recommend it. 5 out of 5.
