This Honestech VHStoDVD 8.0 Deluxe is a fairly basic video capture device that works better than expected. We do a lot of video work for our small business so have prosumer grade capture and editing software, but this package is a good entry level system for anyone wanting to convert old tape based footage to digital.

It should be noted that this take the video input in from your VHS/BetaMax tape player or Camera that you already have and then saves the converted video to your hard drive or DVD burner. The software installed and runs fine on my Win 7 PC.

The user interface is fairly intuitive and it is easy to do basic editing and DVD menu creation. It is important to remember that VHS quality video doesn’t always look that great when shown on HD displays, but it is better than losing those important family memories forever as the tapes will degrade over time.

While this is easy to use for basic functionality, I did find it easier to use my more advanced editing software to finish up my projects.
