I had hoped that Pinnacle 17 would be more stable than previous versions, but it crashed 5 minutes into my first project. My PC is no slouch (core i7, 9GB ram, and several terabytes of 7,200 rpm hard drive space, dedicated to video production). The software interface seems simplified, but that just made some features harder to find than earlier versions (e.g. chapter markers). It seems that Pinnacle 17 has a few small enhancements from version 16, so if you have version 16, stick with it. It wasn’t the most stable either, but I liked the interface better. For consumer grade video editing, I would recommend Video Studio Pro X6 over this software, as it has been much more stable for me, but there are feature tradeoffs between the two, so you would need to assess which features are important to you. I haven’t used the latest Adobe Premier Elements, so I can’t compare it. Pinnacle 17 is a step backward in my estimation.
