CorelCAD by Grace
I’ve been using AutoCAD for about ten years. I’m not a professional drafter, but I use it a few times a year to produce custom automotive parts, and then submit the files to my CNCer for manufacturing. AutoCAD is an extremely powerful program, but it’s very expensive. I began using it because it was recommended by my CNCer and it’s basically the best on the market. With the poor economy and my declining interest, I produce much fewer designs then I use to and have focused my attention elsewhere. Rather then upgrading AutoCAD once again, I decided to give CorelCAD a shot. I was extremely surprised to find that I was able to jump right in and start designing immediately. The layout and control is very familiar and I was able to do exactly what I have always done in the past with AutoCAD. I had no problem loading up old DWG files and submitting new files to my CNCer. Everything was as it had been, only at a fraction of the software’s price.
Again, I am not a professional designer, so I’m sure CorelCAD has it’s shortcomings compared to the CAD-kings like AutoCAD, but for my usage, I found no drawbacks to switching. My only complaint is that I didn’t have this software ten years ago.
