I’ve been using the free VirtualBox and it has worked well for just about everything I need…until lately. I needed to install an extra copy of Mac OS X up and running for testing and since I only have a single Apple computer I needed to create multiple virtual machines so I could do some testing.nI tried using VirtualBox but it failed miserably so I figured why not try this since it claimed to run Mac OS X as a guest OS just fine.nWorked perfectly the first time, unlike VirtualBox, then again VirtualBox is free.nOther things I noticed is that it’s definitely a lot simpler to use than the free alternatives like VirtualBox. I realized VirtualBox is not as simple and as slick to use as it could be. For example, if you are installing Windows 7 using VMware Fusion it’ll automatically detect it and even offer to enter your key during setup to have it fully automated and is pretty quick. Nothing like that in VirtualBox. Also, it seems to be a lot smarter when you move OS images and importing images on your drive. It’ll actually be able to pick up where you left off and import as necessary. On VirtualBox I’ve found this process to be buggy at best. Performance wise it doesn’t seem noticeably faster than VirtualBox but is definitely worth paying for since it actually works with what I needed it for.nOnly thing I can complain about is that they don’t offer a trial version as far as I can tell for the Mac. You can download it but it keeps asking for a serial number before you can even try it.
